Crosley and Crosley Motors: An Illustrated History of America's First Compact Car and the Company that Built It by Michael Banks
(Iconografix; Hudson, WI; 2012)

Powell Crosley, Jr., wanted to build a small, affordable car for the masses. He spent his entire life and a good chunk of his fortune doing it.

This book is the story of Crosley's automotive efforts, which started quietly around 1935 and ended sadly in 1952. But what a great story in between!

The book features a tight narrative, plenty of pictures, vintage advertisements, and the most complete accounting of all of Crosley's legitimate and legitimately weird automotive activities.

Banks has clearly spent time collecting Crosley automobilia and stories. It shows.

Essential.
